Chapter Two

The Heroes & The Battlefield

Your Hero is the heart of your camp. Learn how they anchor the board — and how to read every panel of the battle screen.

The Hero

Your Hero Is the King

Heroes are the most important units on the battlefield — much like the King in a game of chess. Every match begins with your Hero already deployed on the field, serving as the leader and protector of your camp.

Placement Range

Cards Are Placed Around Your Hero

Most cards are placed based on their placement range relative to your Hero. A unit with a placement range of 1 must be placed on a tile directly adjacent to your Hero. A unit with a range of 2 can be placed up to two tiles away. This placement system also applies to other card types, covered later in this guide.

Top Priority Protecting your Hero should always be one of your highest priorities. Your Hero is the heart of your camp's defenses — and if they fall, your camp falls with them. If your Hero is defeated, the battle immediately ends and you are shown the defeat screen.

Spotting Your Hero

The Hero on the Board

As of right now — with online battles being 2-player PvP — look for the king chess-piece icon. This is how you'll know which unit is a Hero and which is a normal unit.

Survival

Health, Defeat & Risk vs. Reward

Hero health panels
Hero status — health, effects & level

All Heroes begin with 50 Health. As they fight and gain experience, they level up and grow stronger — increasing their stats and overall effectiveness on the battlefield.

When a Hero's Health reaches 0, that Hero is defeated — and defeat comes with consequences. Any consumables you brought in, plus items and loot collected from fallen enemies or allies, are at risk of being lost. On death, a percentage of the resources, loot, and consumables carried by your Hero is dropped as part of the game's survival and risk-reward system.

The Survivor's Dilemma Every battle is a balance between pushing forward for valuable rewards and knowing when to retreat with the resources you've already earned.

The Interface

Basic game information — prompts that tell you what to do next, such as tapping a unit to see its details or playing a card from your hand.

Loadout

In-Battle Consumables

Consumables are special items purchased from the Cinder Shop (covered later in this guide). Each can only be used once per battle. Before a match, you may equip up to four consumables on your Hero — choosing the right ones can provide powerful advantages, whether you need healing, extra resources, defensive boosts, or other battlefield benefits.

Weigh the Risk Consumables come with risk: if your Hero is defeated, any consumables you brought in are lost. Consider carefully whether a mission's rewards are worth bringing your most valuable items. The right item at the right moment can turn the tide — but losing it can be costly.
